This article aims to show that speech has a dual status in society. In society in crisis and facing multiple challenges like Burkina Faso, speech can serve as a means of fighting the enemy in the same way as the weapons used by combatants in the theater of operations. This is what the study’s results reveal. Since Captain Ibrahim Traoré took power, hate speech has intensified and is spreadind with a certain virality on digital platforms. These platforms are the scene of battle between pro and anti-Ibrahim Traoré supporters, in an escalating violence. Between attacks and counterattacks, each side fires at close range, seekin to force the other to back down. It is hate speech aimed at destroying a target deemed threatening. Such speech has perlocutionary effects for both the target and society as a whole. The consequences are analyzed on an emotional, legal, and social cohesion level.
